Road to Recovery

Today is exactly two months since my surgery

After surgery, Doc explained that I should expect 6-8 weeks of no load-bearing activity at all. I made it close to six weeks.

In fairness, this is not rogue, do-it-my-way Christian. I mean, I guess it is, but I feel like I went about my PT intelligently.

  • I started wearing the boot part-time, taking careful steps both barefoot on the carpet, and while wearing 8-12mm heel-lifted shoes.

  • I started walking in the deep end of the pool, slowly making my way more shallow every time.

  • Once I could walk in the shallow end, I started doing the steps in the pool

  • I started open water swimming (with added PT benefit of sand-walking to get to the surf)

  • I started surfing again, …just on my knees instead of standing up. Surprisingly cool.

Swimming as the sun comes is fast becoming my new hobby

And, I started riding my beach cruiser again

Probably the most important to me because it makes me mobile again, without driving. Since I was a kid, beach cruisers have always been a symbol of freedom for me. For the same reasons the ocean feels like an escape from society for me, my beach cruiser feels like my meditation. Warm sun, reggae music, and a creative mind, peddling slowly by the oceanfront mansions, is my version of beach nirvana.

How do I do it?

  • I mount my bike by throwing my recovering foot over (the right foot).

  • I peddle aggressively with my left foot

  • With every aggressive peddle with the left, the right just guides around, fulfilling the motion, but put little to no weight and the peddle itself.

It’s kind of like a one-footed bike ride. It gets funny stares, sometimes. I don’t care.

The beach cruiser gives me a glimpse at freedom, again.

Trusting my supplements

I have been very consistent with supplementation as well.

  • Continue to smash the Isodiol CBD products - tinctures, topicals, and beverage enhancers all day long. They sponsor me, so I can offer a 35% OFF code to anyone wanting to purchase CBD products from. Just go to http://isodiol.com and use discount code RUN2HEAL.

  • BCAAs and EAAs for activity recovery. I choose a product called REAAL, and also have a code for it, but I’ll need you to ask me for that one.

  • As a 50-year old man (in 11 days, anyway) I am also prescribed testosterone, 1cc every two weeks, and have been taking an experimental supplement which has been proven to aid in tissue repair, called MK-677.

Where am I failing? My diet. I’d like to blame that on having a two-year old, but I can’t. Bad choices. Period.

The end result of all of this?

Well, listen for yourself…
